How Team SA fared on Friday (Day 8)

Team SA started the eighth day of competition on Friday with 22 medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games – seven golds, seven silvers and eight bronzes. The women’s hockey team beat Wales 1-0 to finish in seventh position. Team SA’s netballers lost their fifth and sixth playoff match 54-46 to Uganda and end the Games in sixth place.

Women’s 100mH, heats:
Marione Fourie finished third in 13.04 and did not qualify for the final
Men’s shot put, final: Kyle Blignaut finished seventh with a distance of 19.23m

BADMINTON
Women’s doubles, round of 16: Deidre Jordaan, Johanna Scholtz lost 2-0 (21-6, 21-4) to Koong Le Pearly, Muralitharan Thinaah (Malaysia)
Mixed doubles, round of 16: Roberts Summers, Johanna Scholtz lost 2-0 (21-18, 21-8) to Sachin Dias, Thilini Hendahewa (Sri Lanka)
Women’s singles, round of 16: Deidre Jordaan lost 2-0 (21-13, 21-5) to Rachael Darragh (N Ire)

GYMNASTICS
Individual allround final:
Kayla Jean Rondi finished 16th with a total score of 94.600 after apparatus scores of 23.000, 24,400, 23.800, 23.400

HOCKEY
Women’s 7th and 8th classification: South Africa 1 Wales 0
Lilian du Plessis scored the only goal of the match as Team SA finished their campaign on a high in seventh position. Du Plessis netted the winner in the 38th minute. Although Wales had more of the possession (55%), South Africa edged the stats when it came to attack circle penetration

NETBALL
5th and 6th classification: South Africa 46 Uganda 54
South Africa fell behind 15-13 in the first quarter and couldn’t claw their way back. They lost the second quarter 15-8, rallied to win the third quarter 16-11 but then lost the fourth quarter 13-11
