Our Gavin Lubbe made his intentions clear ahead of the UCI BMX Supercross in Pietermaritzburg on Friday and Saturday when he tore apart the local line up at the first two legs of the SA BMX National Championships held at the Kempton Park BMX track this past weekend.
Lubbe used the golden opportunity to fine tune his performance and add the final touches before he takes on the best in the world at Alexandra Park this weekend.
ÔÇ£I was very happy with how the weekend went for me. Thankfully the rain stayed away and we managed to have a great weekend of racing,ÔÇØ said Lubbe. ÔÇ¿ÔÇ¿ÔÇ£I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend of preparations. Everyone’s working hard and trying to step it up over here in South Africa but fortunately things just worked out for me and I’m obviously very chuffed to have walked away with the two wins,ÔÇØ he added.
Another of South Africa’s Supercross entries, Kyle Dodd made amends in the second leg after an unfortunate racing incident sent him tumbling to the turf in the first leg and brought his race day to an abrupt halt.
ÔÇ£I came up alongside Gav (Lubbe) and had a good line going into the first corner but unfortunately I came together with Kane Herbert and down I went,ÔÇØ said Dodd. ÔÇ£It’s just part of racing, you have to learn to take the good with the bad and move on.
ÔÇ£Sunday was far better for me though. I made sure I worked on a couple things and had just hoped for the best going into the second leg and fortunately things went my way second time around,ÔÇØ he added.
Dodd, having recently spent three months in the United States under the watchful eye of Lubbe, is hungry to go toe to toe with the top riders in the world at this weekend’s Supercross.
ÔÇ£I’ve been working really hard recently so to have been right up there, running with the big guys this weekend was great. Results like that just show that my hard work is really starting to pay off and I’m really excited for this weekend!ÔÇØ said Dodd.
