Moodie on the move

Wesley Moodie and Belgian partner Dick Norman surged through to the second round of the US Open tennis tournament in New York today.

The seventh seeds beat the French combination of Jeremy Chardy and Julian Bennetau 6-4 6-7 6-4.

The match lasted 1hr 39min with Moodie and Norman just edging out the French 8-7 in terms of aces served.

They now come up against another French combination in the form of Marc Gicquel and Fabrice Santoro.

Moodie’s victory will go some way to making up for Jeff Coetzee’s first round exit in the doubles earlier this week.

Both are part of SASCOC’s OPEX programme geared at preparing our medal hopes for the 2012 Olympics in London.
