A day after making her first senior ICF Sprint World Championships B-Final, South Africa’s Esti van Tonder went through to the semi-finals of her other distance.
Thursday saw her racing over the K1 500m distance, and Friday she was in action over the shorter 200m distance in Racice, Czech Republic.
She went off in the third heat and took sixth spot in 41.772sec, which was 1.472sec behind winner Spela Ponomarenko Janic of Slovenia.
By virtue of being in the top six, she automatically secured her place in the afternoon semi-finals.
On Saturday she’ll race the B-Final of the 500m distance, followed in the afternoon by the 200m semi-finals.
Van Tonder told Team SA: I had a slow start, but managed to pull up again into 6th. I’m happy with it for now, but I’ll definitely look to get a better start tomorrow.’
