The South African Gymnastics Federation has named the artistic team that will represent the country at the 48th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
This will be the first time the championships will go to the Middle East, where it will be held at the Aspire Dome from Thursday, 25 October to Saturday, 3 November. The championships will feature competitions for the senior men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics.
Team SA will only participate in the women’s competition and have sent three gymnasts who will be competing in the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise events.
All-round gymnastic national champion Caitlin Rooskrantz will lead the pack and is joined by Angela Maguire and Naveen Daries. The three qualified for the World Championships at the SA Championships held earlier this year.
The Team SA artistic gymnastics team will be joined by three SA Gymnastics officials for the event.
These officials include coaches Elsie Laing and Mariolize Bakker, and one official judge, Debbie Gordon.
The World Championships are a big step towards qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which the women have been working hard for.
