The 2017 SA National Track and Omnium Championships are just around the corner, and Bellville Velodrome and race organisers are all set to host the event at the 250-metre indoor track in the Western Cape from 3-8 April.
Event organiser, Nigel Isaacs looks forward to hosting the 2017 edition of the National Championships, and anticipates a thrilling week of high-intensity track action.
Isaacs says that preparations are going very well ahead of next week’s event. ‘I’m happy with how they have gone so far. We have one or two odds and ends this side to finish off, and then we will be all set to go,’ he added.
Isaacs said that after looking at results from the recent African Continental Track Championships in Durban, he is hoping to see an excellent week of track racing.
‘I’ve seen quite a few guys out here training very hard, and I know of a team or two aiming for a national record in the Team Pursuit. It should be very exciting to see,’ he said.
Last week’s Continental Championships saw many South African track cyclists claiming gold medals, including Nolan Hoffman, Bernette Beyers, Jean Spies, and mountain bike enthusiast, Courtney Smith, to name a few.
These riders and more will be once again taking their talent to the track to battle it out for the acclaimed National Jersey. Day one of the championships will consist mainly of timed (Individual Pursuit, and Time Trials) along with various Sprint events.
As the track is indoors, the weather will not be a contributing factor to the race programme and entries for the event are closed.
