SA trio all advance in Stellenbosch

It was a good day for the three South Africans left in the draw of the Digicall Futures 2 tennis tournament in Stellenbosch.

Top-seeded players Nik Scholtz and Chanel Simmonds both advanced to the quarter-finals and wildcard Tucker Vorster also booked his spot in the next round.

Simmonds once again demolished her opponent when she beat Laura Sainsbury 6-0 6-3 and she’ll now face qualifier Emilie Lindh Gallagher from England.

The big match on the day for South Africa was Vorster’s match against Jaime Pulgar-Garcia. Vorster needed two hours and 21 minutes to beat the eighth seed 6-4 2-6 6-3.

Vorster’s next match is against his countryman Scholtz, who needed two tiebreakers to advance to the quarter-final.

Both second seeds are also through to the final eight. Zimbabwe’s Takanyi Garanganga beat Germany’s Mats Rosenkrantz 6-3 6-3 and Anastasia Pribylova from Russia had no troubles against wildcard Amelie Boy from Mauritius.
