Sam praise for Oscar

Gideon Sam, the president of South Africa’s Olympic committee, SASCOC, has congratulated Oscar Pistorius on his brave attempt to qualify for the 2009 IAAF World Track and Field Championships in Berlin, and urged the Paralympic sprinter not to give up on his dream.

ÔÇ£Oscar is still only 22 and there will be other opportunities for him. Given the injury-related setback of earlier this year it was always going to be an uphill task for him to qualify for Berlin, but the manner in which he committed himself to the task is an inspiration,ÔÇØ Sam said.
Pistorius at the weekend officially resigned himself to not making the South African team for the able-bodied championships in the 400m event, having not achieved the required qualifying standard.
ÔÇ£The long-term aim is the London 2012 Olympics and Oscar will get our full backing and support in his quest to be there, with the world’s best able-bodied athletes. He must hold his head up high and remember that he has age and time on his side,ÔÇØ Sam added.
The IAAF World Track and Field Championships take place in Berlin from August 15-23.
