South Africa are through to the final of the BNP Paribas Europe/Africa Zone Group II being played in Tallinn, Estonia, writes Mark Etheridge.
That’s after they won their third Pool match to end the round-robin unbeaten on Friday.
Earlier wins against Egypt and hosts Estonia were supplemented by a 2-1 win against Bosnia and Herzegovina at the national indoor centre.
Chanel Simmonds set up the South Africans when she beat Damira Muminovic in straight sets, 6-4 6-2. Then top-ranked Chani Scheepers comfortably overcame Jelena Simic 6-4 6-0, rendering the doubles match meaningless.
But that match still served to give the other team-members, Ilze Hattingh and Michelle Sammons some valuable Fed Cup experience .
The combination were unable to make it 3-0 for South Africa as they went down 4-6 2-6 to Simic and Jasmina Tinjic.
South Africa topped their pool and they now come up against Finland on Saturday in a bid for promotion to the Europe/Africa Zone Group I.
