Twenty high schools from the Gauteng province on Monday took delivery of much-needed sporting equipment sponsored by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) in conjunction with Procter & Gamble (P&G) South Africa at a handover event at Olympic House, Johannesburg.
P&G’s collaboration with SASCOC began in 2012 and is part of its worldwide partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC). P&G South Africa, which supported the South African Olympic team at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, is continuing with its 10-year plan of contributing to the development of South Africa’s next generation of champions by supporting youth sports development.
As the national macro sports body, SASCOCs continued mandate is to improve school sport in South Africa since this is where talent is nurtured right from grassroots level.
Says SASCOC CEO, Tubby Reddy: We envisage that our partnership with P&G will go a long way to improving sport in schools. We hope the sporting equipment handed over to these 20 schools will be put to good use and will promote the development of sports in these schools.
Speaking on behalf of P&G, Communications Manager Jeanne du Plessis said: P&G is proud to be a Worldwide Olympic Partner. At the start of our Thank You Mom program, we asked moms everywhere: What would be a great way for us to help you? They said Help support youth sports because sport helps moms too. It helps moms raise healthy, happy kids. This is why we are committing to support not just the moms of Olympians, but every mom who does whatever it takes to make her childs life the best it can be.
