Eight medals in Rio

The SA swim team raked in a total of eight medals (six silver and two bronze) after the completion of the week-long International Paralympic Committee’s World Short Course Swimming Championships in Rio de Janeiro this weekend.

Those who won medals at the championships for SA were Shireen Sapiro (silver in the 100 metres backstroke, and 100 metres butterfly, S10 category), Shannon Ferguson (50 and 100 metres freestyle and 50 metres backstroke, S3 category) and Tadhg Slattery, who claimed silver in the 100 metres breaststroke and bronze medals in the 100 and 200 metres individual medley races, SB5 category).

In congratulating the SA team on their performances, Swimming SA CEO Shaun Adriaanse said: ÔÇ£The results achieved by the SA team at the IPC World Short Course Swimming Championships in Rio de Janeiro was the perfect way to finish off a highly successful 2009 aquatics campaign for South Africa.
