Meanwhile, Team SA received a visit on Tuesday from the Deputy Minister of Sports Arts and Culture, Ms Nocawe Mafu. She arrived at the athletes village, where Team SA are staying at the University of Rabat, having come from the football where they saw the SA men’s U20 team go down 2-1 to Nigeria in their group match. The deputy minister met with acting SASCOC CEO Ravi Govender and the chef de mission for Team SA at these African Games, Desiree Vardhan, and inspected the facilities. She engaged with those South Africans who were in the village, mainly medical and administrative staff, given the table tennis players were out practising and the swimmers are based in Casablanca, some 100km away, ahead of their competition starting on Wednesday. The deputy minister said: ‘It’s unfortunate that it’s such a short stay, but I have really enjoyed what I’ve seen at these wonderful facilities. Team SA has my full support and I’m behind each and every team member as they strive to do their utmost for their country in an important Games. I wish every one the very best of luck and to fly the flag high.’
