At Olympic House we are in the business of taking sport to another level in South Africa and we believe we are achieving this through our diligent day-to-day operations.
October is a busy month in our calendar, with many events lined up. Firstly SASCOC would like to congratulate Badminton South Africa on their 75th anniversary. The cocktail function held on Friday to welcome international dignitaries was a great success. It is inspiring to note that South Africa is the biggest badminton nation in Africa. Mr Raj Gaya, the World Badminton Federation representative, urged Badminton South Africa to aim high and excel in the various international competitions.
We also look forward to the announcement of the nominees for the South African Sports awards being held this week. These awards have been created to recognise and honour individuals and teams who have excelled both on and off the field during the period from 1 October 2012- 30 August 2013.
Says SASCOC CEO, Tubby Reddy, ÔÇ£The South African Sports Awards are an initiative that is meant to reward South African sports stars for their efforts in keeping the passion of sport alive in the hearts of millions of South Africans through their efforts in local and international sports events. We look forward to recognise and acknowledge the efforts of sports heroes who have excelled in the time under review.ÔÇØ
On another note, the Jack Cheetham and Letsema awards nominations were concluded on Friday. This event acknowledges and rewards development projects with individuals or teams that have potential to be champions for both able bodied and people with disabilities respectively. Nineteen submissions were made, 13 for Jack Cheetham and three for the Letsema award nominations. The final winners in each category will be announced on 31 October.
Lastly, as the National Olympic committee, SASCOC has partnered with KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism, CATHSSETA, Tourism KZN and Durban Tourism, Tsogo Sun and supported by Durban KZN Convention Bureau and the exclusive broadcasting partner SABC to host the Sports and Events Tourism Exchange exhibition and conference. The exhibition takes place from 22-24 October 2013 at the Durban International Convention Centre. It is an event aimed at positioning South Africa as a sports tourism destination.
There is much hype at Olympic House in preparation for all these events and we’re sure to execute them to our normal high standard.
