Update from Olympic House

October is all but gone now and all the events that were lined up for the month were executed successfully.

For us here at SASCOC, plenty of diligence, teamwork and hard work enabled us to deliver the best outcome that we could.

The Sports and Events Tourism Exchange (SETE) conference which took place in Durban from 22-24 October 2013 was an important platform to showcase and position South Africa as a sports tourism destination. SASCOC agreed to champion the Bidding & Hosting Strategy going forward.

With major international events being recognised over the next 17 years, the main highlight was the possible hosting of the Commonwealth Games 2022. The conference was indeed an eye opener and SASCOC is now working tirelessly to achieve this goal.

We now look forward to the Jack Cheetham and Letsema Awards that are coming up. The main purpose of this event is to recognise and reward development projects to teams or individuals that have the potential to be champions for both abled-bodied people and for people with disabilities.

We have 19 nominees in total, 16 for the Jack Cheetham Awards and three for the Letsema Awards. We wish all the nominees the best.

Says SASCOC CEO: Tubby Reddy: ÔÇ£Through the Jack Cheetham and Letsema Awards, we encourage young people to believe in themselves and have confidence that they can excel in sport and win. We congratulate all those who are going to win the awards and encourage everyone to continue thriving for the best.ÔÇØ
