Update from Olympic House

The major highlight in the sports calendar this year are the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland in late July to early August.

We at SASCOC have put on our working boots and are working enthusiastically in preparation for this event, to ensure that it’s a big success.

Obviously events of such high magnitude need enough preparation to be able to deliver excellence.

The Glasgow 2014 Queen’s Baton Relay was in the country last week and it was a great success. We created an innovative platform in promoting the Games in Glasgow and across the Commonwealth countries and also showcased South Africa by travelling to various landmarks with the Queen’s Baton.

Communities had a chance to see and hold the Baton and we could see so much happiness in their faces to be associated with this renowned event.

Our project teams continue working hard to prepare for the various games being held this year which include: the African Youth Games in May, the Youth Olympic Games, Zone VI games and many other activities on our calendar.

The year has been kick-started on a good note and SASCOC is anticipating its successful execution of all upcoming games in 2014. We are a winning nation and we will continue to strive for excellence through the best preparation.
