One down… one to go! Charl du Toit shares with Team SA’s Mark Etheridge, his golden run in the T37 200-metre final at the IPC Athletlcs World Championships in London on Tuesday.

‘I’m really very grateful at how the race went. I want to thank my coach, teammates and family for their support.
‘It was wonderful to see them in the stands last night. I could not have done it without them.
‘It was also my conditioning coach’s birthday, so Sean Surmon, I hope you enjoyed it.
‘It felt like I ran a good bend, lost a bit of control over my CP (Cerebral Palsy) arm coming out of the bend, but me and Suzanne [Pretorius, captain] spoke about controlling it out of the bend beforehand, and I recovered nicely.
‘Coming into the home straight I thought to myself “just keep on stepping over”, the Brazilian athlete ran a great race and pushed me right to the end.
‘At the end of the day, I’m very grateful on how everything worked out. All the Glory to God.
‘It was really special to run with Ruhan [Van Rooyen, teammate], and we were pumped up after we both saw that he ran a PB – he’s such a great guy.
‘So yes, today is a new day, new event and I’m really honoured to go out and represent our wonderful country again.’
